Meet LORELEI our in-house DIETICIAN

Lorelei Sturm is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist licensed by the state of Illinois. In 2019 she received her Master’s Degree in Nutrition from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Though she’s always had an interest in health and wellness, nutrition is Lorelei’s second career. She made a living as an actress for many years. Lorelei is most interested in how proper nutrition can prevent people from developing many of the diseases that are known to be associated with lifestyle. Her aim is to help others approach their own nutrition with fact-based knowledge as well as practical skills and tools. Lorelei is also a yoga instructor and believes that overall wellness is about more than just eating your vegetables.

     As we get through these weeks now months of life-changing circumstances, we are presented the opportunity to expand ourselves. Expand? No not our waistlines, but our minds, our daily activities, our habits, our reactions, our creations, our food choices, our environments, the relationships we have with people, and most importantly the relationship we have with our SELF. My belief is that when we get our SELF in tip top working order THEN we have the full capacity to truly be helpful while we are HERE on EARTH and also be truly happy.

   
    You are not alone in this journey and I think it is a MIRACLE that we are all in the same boat TOGETHER! I wish you could see from my eyes what I see going on in the world right now. Yes I know there is disease and sadness and anxiety and anger and many other not so good feelings and moments. BUT! Darkness is always followed by Light and this light is Soooooo beautiful! People taking time to connect, smile, laugh, catch up, swap stories, try new things, getting creative, and most of all questioning ourselves about happiness and health. This situation is pushing us to be happy, to be love, to be support, to be compassion, to be healthy. Collectively we are showing each other our “SELF” virtually. It’s beautiful! I could go on and on really. There are so many other layers that I see, this is just one layer.

     This brings me to my topic of SELF-CARE. It seems selfish. Yes. That’s ok. Why? Because at the end of the day you are your MOST helpful to those around you when YOU are able to BE the best version of your SELF. So as we all move ourselves to our BEST, I thought I would share a list of ideas what self-care might be include. Long story short, I think self-care is doing and being what makes you FEEL good long term. Go with flow and what comes to mind rather than overthinking it.  Lose the list of “to-do’s” and just work on BEING happy and healthy to get started. Re-curring patterns will soon develop that actually FEEl GOOD and don’t feel like you have to do it.


​Here is my personal LIST of weekly self-care that seems to make all the difference! Create your own list and see what happens to you and your life! It’s all about YOU right now! So ENJOY it!

10-30 minute daily meditations

7-8 hours of restful sleep

Zoom chats with Family and Friends

Eating foods that promote a healthy Immune system

Fresh cut flowers in my purple vase

Reading magazines about mindfulness and healthy habits

Breaks throughout the day to go outside and just be with nature and get fresh air

Short car rides to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine with the sun roof

Cuddling, brushing and playing with my cat, Van

Drinking tea and lemon water throughout the day

Learning new video editing applications

Scheduling work meetings and staying organized to keep a sense of normalcy

​Starting a new creative project with no deadlines

Listening to music and singing and dancing

Unsubscribe to email lists and delete old emails

Clean and organize desk, file bills, and finally buy printer ink

Listen to mindful audio/videos on YouTube to maintain positive outlook

Keep kitchen clean and decorate so I want to spend time in it

Put new pictures in all my picture frames

Cut my toenails, fingernails and wash my hair (big accomplishment :)

When I feel anxious remind myself to stop what I am doing and take a time out

Deep breathing to help bring a sense  of calm
​

Stop everything I am doing and enjoy the moments that bring me sunshine
